# IKEA wardrobe assembly

We assemble every IKEA wardrobe, from PAX to BILLY. KALLAX shelving and the BRIMNES and HEMNES ranges are included, with levelling, plumbing and wall anchoring per IKEA instructions.

We assemble IKEA wardrobes in one fixed order: read the floor and set the levelling feet against a laser line, join the frames, and only then hang the doors and fit the interior. A two-metre PAX is usually standing within one and a half to two hours, including the anti-tip bracket in the wall. We bring our own tools, take the cardboard out of the house and leave the floor swept.

## Scope of work
- **Systems** — PAX walk-in, BILLY bookcase, KALLAX shelf unit, BRIMNES, HEMNES and MALM — every IKEA system.
- **Sliding doors** — PAX sliding doors set in the track to the millimetre. No ticking doors, no smudge on the rail.
- **Wall anchoring** — Concrete, sand-lime brick, plasterboard or metal stud — we pick the right plug based on what we find on site.
- **Soft-close** — Hinges adjusted, drawers soft-close tested. The damper takes over for the last five centimetres: no bang, no door that rattles after it shuts.
- **Layout** — KOMPLEMENT interior to fit: clothes rails at height, drawers at mid-level, shoe racks without play.
- **Clean behind** — Packaging and polystyrene carried out, floor swept, old wardrobe removed in agreement if needed.

## What actually happens when a wardrobe goes up

### The first carcass decides the whole wall
Almost no Dutch floor is flat. In a 1930s house it falls away towards the front wall; in new-build there is a screed with a slight crown in the middle. So we set a laser line around the room first and adjust the feet of the first frame to that line, not to the floor. One millimetre out at the bottom returns as four or five millimetres at door height, and you see it immediately in the gap between two doors. Once the first carcass stands, the rest follows: every further frame is bolted to it and carried along in the same line. ### The anti-tip bracket is not an optional extra
Every PAX box contains a bracket with screws, and those screws are made for timber. A Dutch bedroom rarely offers timber. Plasterboard on metal studs needs a cavity anchor or a screw that catches the stud itself; sand-lime brick needs a nylon plug in a cleanly drilled hole; aerated concrete needs a dedicated aircrete plug, because an ordinary one works its way straight back out. ### Sliding doors live or die by the top rail
A PAX with sliding doors has no hinge you can correct later; everything sits in the rail. The top rail must be exactly level and run parallel with the front of the wardrobe, otherwise the door rolls open or shut on its own. The bottom guide has to sit precisely in the middle, or the door taps against its neighbour on every pass. We adjust the wheels on both sides, run each door fully back and forth three times and listen while we do it: a scraping sound means the door is catching somewhere, and we cure that before anything goes into the wardrobe.

### BILLY, KALLAX and HEMNES each ask something different
BILLY has small pegs that must enter a hole slightly too tight for them; force them and the chipboard splits on the inside, which then shows on the side panel. KALLAX only becomes rigid when every bolt is tightened evenly and in rotation — fully tighten one corner first and the grid pulls out of square. HEMNES uses wooden dowels in glue: you get one attempt, because a dowel pulled back out takes timber with it. That is why we lay out every part and walk through the order before anything is fixed.

### The interior goes in once the wardrobe stands
We deliberately fit KOMPLEMENT drawers, rails and shoe racks last. A frame that is not yet fixed to the wall flexes under the weight of an open drawer, so anything you adjust at that point will shift again later. Heights are also a decision best made in place: how high a hanging rail may sit depends on what goes underneath, and a drawer at eye level is far more pleasant than one at floor level. ### What you clear away saves half an hour
Most lost time comes from shifting things, not from driving screws. An empty wall, a clear route from the front door and somewhere the boxes may be opened easily save half an hour on a three-metre wardrobe. Leave the boxes where the wardrobe will stand if you can: a PAX frame is heavy and carrying it up a staircase costs more than unpacking it. Check as well that every box has arrived — IKEA ships doors, frames and interior fittings as separate parcels. ### How long does an IKEA PAX wardrobe take to assemble?
A standard 200×100 cm PAX takes 60–90 minutes including anchoring and door adjustment.

### Do you anchor a PAX into plasterboard as well?
Yes. Plasterboard gets cavity fixings or a screw into a metal stud behind it, sand-lime brick a chemical anchor, and concrete a concrete screw or through-bolt. We tap the wall before we drill.

### Does a PAX really have to be fixed to the wall?
Yes. A tall, shallow wardrobe with an open drawer tips forward, which is exactly why a bracket is in the box. We always fit it and choose the fixing to suit the wall we find — a cavity anchor in plasterboard, a nylon plug in sand-lime brick, an aircrete plug in aerated concrete.

### What do you do when the floor is not level?
We set the wardrobe against a laser line rather than against the floor and take up the difference with the levelling feet of the frame. If the fall is greater than the feet can absorb, we pack underneath with plastic shims — never cardboard or timber, because both compress over time.

### Can you extend or move an existing wardrobe?
Extending a PAX is usually possible: the new frame is bolted to the existing one and the whole run is levelled again. Moving one is a dismantling job rather than a lifting job, because an assembled frame does not tolerate sideways force. Tell us in advance what is there and we will bring the right fixings.
